Three Things to Check Before Touring a Home
1. Look Beyond the Staging
It is easy to fall in love with fresh paint, nice furniture, and great lighting. While those details matter, take a closer look at the home’s condition too. Check walls, floors, ceilings, windows, and doors for signs of wear, moisture, or deferred maintenance. A beautiful room should still function well day to day.
2. Think About How the Home Lives
As you walk through the property, imagine your normal routine. Does the layout fit the way you live? Consider bedroom placement, storage, kitchen flow, laundry access, and how indoor and outdoor spaces connect. A home can look great online but feel very different once you walk through it in person.
3. Pay Attention to the Surroundings
A home tour is also a chance to notice what is happening outside the front door. Look at the street, parking, nearby homes, traffic flow, and overall atmosphere. If possible, visit the area at different times of day so you can get a better feel for the neighborhood.
Before touring, it helps to bring a short checklist and jot down notes after each stop. Small observations add up quickly, and having them written down can make comparing homes much easier later on.
